Approximately fifty vehicles have been marked with what appears to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Vehicles, exterior walls and postal boxes were vandalized, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they stated in a statement.
Law enforcement say they were contacted late on Wednesday, when a individual noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish liquid.
The substance had been drawn in the pattern of a banned symbol, they stated.
Police then discovered numerous other marked cars and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under laws outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Officials say preliminary tests indicate the fluid was probably blood from a person.
"There is still no indication as to its source; officials are not yet aware of any harm in association with the occurrence," they commented.
City officials announced they were trying "to resolve the mystery" and have requested to the community for information.
A senior official stated the vandalism rendered him without words and needed to be addressed rapidly.
"This event hits the center of Hanau and revives the trauma of the right-wing violent incident in 2020," he stated on a platform, recalling the killing of nine individuals by a shooter focusing on individuals of immigrant origin in five years prior.
